You can either spend hundreds (even thousands) of dollars on golf coaching - or you can use a simple, proven method to totally change the way you swing. |
Effective Putting Drills
Good putting skills are imperative to a successful game of golf. Therefore, regular putting drills are a great way to develop great hand and eye coordination.
During the winter months, this is especially important, because you may not be able to get out on the course as often as you would like. Alternatively, if you are a beginner, you may be looking for effective putting drills to improve your skills. Either way, here are some great putting drills that can be practiced by golfers of all abilities.
Target Practice
This fun drill can be practiced anywhere. In fact, if you have a buddy to practice with, it can be made into a game. Simply, cut three circles (one the size of a golf ball, a second that is two or three times larger and a third that is two or three times larger than the second) out of paper and place them on the floor on top of each other (largest on the bottom and smallest on top).
If you are playing with a friend, you may like to assign scores to each circle (10 for the center, 5 for the middle and 2 for outer circle for example) and see who can score the highest with ten shots.
The Wall Drill
The wall drill is a very easy way to practice putting, as all you need is a wall, but it is also one of the most interesting putting drills. The aim of the wall drill is to work on the balance of your swing. You need to position yourself so that you are facing the wall and your feet are parallel to it.
You should be close enough to the wall that your putter is only about an inch away from it. Place a ball by your putter and take a swing. The aim is for the club to remain an inch away from the wall during the entire swing. If your club hits the wall or moves further away from it, then you need to work on keeping your swing straight.
The Circle Putting Drill
This is another one of the handy putting drills that can be practiced anywhere. You may choose to perform the circle drill on the green or in a carpeted room. Simply select a target on the carpet (the green already has one) and position 8 golf balls in a circle around it. However, the first ball should be placed approximately one foot away from the target or hole.
The subsequent balls should be about one foot further than the previous ball, so the eighth ball will be approximately eight feet away from the target or hole.
Putt each ball, starting with the one closest to the target, trying to be as fast as possible. Once you have completed this drill, set up the balls again and attempt to start from the ball that is furthest away.
Of course, these are just three of the many putting drills that you may like to try. However, they are wonderfully enjoyable ways to improve or maintain your putting skills.
